Colombo is the central metropolitan city of Sri Lanka, spreading over thirty-seven square kilometers. By 2023, more than 633,000 people will live in Colombo. In Colombo, you can find many beautiful, manufactured, and natural tourist attractions. 

This city is very populous and gorgeous, with different ethnicities, cultural differences, and linguistic diversity. This article describes the 5 best places to visit in Colombo with friends.

Gold Face Green.

When visiting places in Colombo, gold face green has a prominent position. The gold face green is a horizontal section of green grass. In the 18th century (1820), British Governor Sir Edward Barnes (1776–1838) used this land for horse riding. But nowadays, most people come here to spend their time on vacation and relax. Open to everyone, big and small alike, this area becomes a paradise for children to play in the evening. 

Most people come to gold face green in the evening. It was for nothing else but to see the beautiful sunset view. In front of the golf face green is the lovely Colombo beach.

Well-known restaurants and hotels can be seen around the golf face green. Likewise, in this place, small eateries and tea shops can be visited around the area. 

Various events and festivals are organized in this place related to the respective religious activities and musical performances during the festive season. 

If you are visiting by vehicle, You can park in front of the golf face green, for which you have to buy a ticket. 

Galle Face Green, usually the busiest on the weekend, is packed with local visitors. This is the perfect place to relax in a bustling city and enjoy a beautiful beach.

 Lotus Tower – Colombo

 As the next beautiful place, we can introduce the magnificent Lotus Tower, which has a height of 351.5 m (1,153 ft). The Latus Tower construction started on 20 January 2012 and will be handed over to the public on 16 September 2022. It started functioning mainly as a communication center and now consists of beautiful shopping malls and other shops. 

A  revolving restaurant can be seen from the top of the Lotus Tower’s 27th floor. The restaurant takes 90 minutes to complete a revolving one round, and through the glass windows, you can see the beauty of the surroundings of Colombo. 

The ideal time is between 4 and 5 pm; if you can visit the Lotus Tower, you can see the sunset view and the colorful city of Colombo at night. You can access the protected corridor from the top floor to stroll around the Lotus Tower. 

You need to buy a ticket to enter the Lotus Tower, and you can use the parking lot in front of the Lotus Tower to park your vehicles. You have to buy a separate ticket to stop the vehicle. 

 Independence Square – Colombo

Independence Square is a significant place because the nationally valid document of independence was signed at this place during the liberation from the British. 

Many scholars point out that the beautiful architecture and colorful Independence Square are very similar to the model of the Magul Maduwa in Kandy. At the Magul Maduwa in Kandy on 2 March 1815, the Sri Lankans gave the British the power of Sri Lanka in a document, and then Sri Lanka was ruled under the British crown for more than a century.

A statue of Mr. DS Senanayake considered the father of Sri Lanka’s independence, can be seen in front of the Independence Square building. 

On the upper walls inside the building, you can see paintings depicting freedom fighting movements and various religious and cultural occasions. This building is located in the middle of a small garden.

A hospital complex used during the British era is a distance from the Independence Square building. The building complex is beautifully designed with its wood.

Gangarama Seema Malaka – Colombo

Gangarama Seema Malaka can be called a place that beautifies the city of Colombo. Jeffrey Bawa, a world-famous architect, had significantly contributed to this design. Seema Malaka, a  Buddhist temple, is a masterpiece built on water. 

A ticket is required to enter, and this temple is designed according to the Mahayana Buddhist culture. The main house, surrounded by attractive golden Buddha statues, is fascinating. Hindu temples are located just outside the main house, and there are also large pagodas. This can be called a place that is most attracted and loved by foreign devotees and locals.

Colombo Red Mosque (Red Masjid).

 The Red Mosque can be called a religious place, which is very colorful with red and white. It can be called a central Muslim mosque in Colombo. 

The mosque is located near the Colombo Fort Mall (Petta Market), which can be called the most crowded and busiest place in Colombo. Muslims and other people can see the beauty and glory of the Red Mosque. This mosque was first set up as a place of worship for Muslim people in business coming to Colombo Fort in the early nineteenth century. On Fridays, the church is crowded with devotees.
